Odyssey Funmaries!

In order to ramp up for our reading of James Joyce’s Ulysses, we thought it would be a good idea to review Homer’s Odyssey. Joyce used this classical text about the Greek warrior’s 10-year wandering to frame his story about 3 Dubliners wandering around on one day, June 16, 1904.

On May 29th, 2009 (18 days before we planned to start reading Ulysses), we committed to both a marathon reading of the complete Odyssey, as well as a daily posting of one fun summary (“funmary”) of each of the 18 relevant events in the Odyssey Joyce used to shape his 18 chapters

It was our countdown to the first day we started reading Ulysses: Bloomsday, June 16, 2009.

It was daunting and harrowing challenge that broke a few of us, while it made those left stronger. The fruits of our fantastic labor are posted below. You will be amazed.
